Lawn Care:

First of all LIME your lawn with FABULAWN PELLETIZED DOLOMITE LIME to neutralize the acidic build up in soil attributed to our wet winters.

Second, THATCH, POWER RAKE and AERATE your lawn. Thatching in the spring removes all dead grass at the bottom of grass blades. Dead grass is responsible for disease and hosts insects, both detrimental to a healthy lawn. Power Raking gives lawns a tight ‘haircut’ encouraging new growth to develop from the root system. After thatching and power raking, be sure to FERTILIZE with any of these products: 13-16-10, 13-5-7 LAWN TREAT or 24-4-16 FABULAWN lawn food. Unlike National brands, these Fertilizers are developed for us by a BC company specifically for West Coat and Vancouver Island lawns. These fertilizers will get your lawns out of their winter dormancy. The last step, requires you to wait a week, and then to over seed your lawn to make it lush and thick. Why do we want a thick lawn? The thicker the lawn – the less room for weeds or moss to appear. (Remember, lawn seed only germinates in the warm weather)

Once your grass germinates you have to cut it at least 3 times. Use 24-4-16 Fabulawn once every 6-8 weeks until mid September to keep it lush and green. A 3” thick lawn is ideal because it keeps roots cool and moist through the warm summer and autumn months.

When watering your lawn in during the hot months (late spring and summer and early autumn), water at dusk only, as this is the optimum time for effective watering, you will require less watering, and there is less evaporation – so it also saves water.

Between mid September and mid November be sure to use 6-3-12 FALL FEEDER and DOLOMITE LIME to ensure a strong, healthy and acid controlled lawn going into our uncertain temperate winters. Again these fertilizers are developed for the West coast, recognizing that some National brands, high in Nitrogen have been responsible for a problem referred to as snow mold in West Coast lawns.
